The Kennedy Half Dollar was first minted in 1964 as a memorial to the assassinated President John F. Kennedy. It was authorized by Congress just a month after his death. The Kennedy Half is the only coin in U.S. History to use the Presidential Seal design on the reverse. Since 2002, Kennedy Half Dollars have only been struck to satisfy the demand from collectors, and are available at a premium through the Mint.
This stunning 2003 Kennedy Silver Gem Proof Half Dollar was double struck on highly polished dies, giving the coin's surface a mirror like finish. The raised parts of the design appear frosted. Similar to coin shown.
