This stunning 2018 Reverse Proof Jefferson Nickel was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the San Francisco Mint producing proof coinage. What makes this nickel unique is the beautiful reverse proof finish, resulting in a magnificent effect where the reverse proof coin's shiny design elements and frosted backgrounds makes a stunning contrast (photos above do not do this coin justice!). With a limited mintage of 200,000, it will be a true collector's item for years to come.
The Jefferson nickel has been the five-cent coin struck by the United States Mint since 1938, when it replaced the Buffalo Nickel. From 1938 until 2004, the copper-nickel coin's obverse featured a profile depiction of founding father and third U.S. President Thomas Jefferson by artist Felix Schlag. Since 2006, Jefferson's portrayal, newly designed by Jamie Franki, faces forward. The coin's reverse is still the Schlag original featuring Jefferson's home, Monticello. This beautiful coin comes encased in an air-tight capsule to protect the coin's integrity.
