America the Beautiful Quarters capture the breathtaking beauty of America’s natural landscapes that have inspired countless poets, adventurers, and artists. The U.S. is honoring our Nation's national parks and historic sites on quarters featuring five new designs each year.
Released in 2019, the Lowell National Historical Park Quarter commemorates the role of Lowell, MA in the Industrial Revolution, infusing the human story in addition to the industry processes and cultural environment at the time. The coin weaves together key elements of Lowell’s rich history, from women workers known as ‘mill girls’ to innovations in technology to the preservation of the industrial cityscape. In the background of the design, a view of Lowell, including the Boott Mill clock tower, is seen through the window. The chimney suggests the changing source of industrial power from waterwheels and turbines to steam engines. The clock and the bell tower symbolizes the shift from pre-industrial time based on the rhythms of the natural world to the “on the clock” time of the Industrial Revolution.
This particular coin is a beautiful deep cameo gem proof quarter. The raised parts of a cameo proof coin appear frosted while the plain, flat areas have a mirror-like appearance. Similar to coin shown.
