To celebrate the contributions of our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States Mint issued a dime with his portrait in 1946 and replaced the "Mercury" dime. The entire process was rushed considerably so that the first release of the newly designed coins would coincide with the “March of Dimes,” a charity that had been publicly supported by Roosevelt. The reverse design features a torch surrounded by an Olive branch and an Oak branch along with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
This stunning 1971 Roosevelt Gem Proof Dime was double struck on highly polished dies, giving the coin's surface a mirror like finish. The raised parts of the design appear frosted. Similar to coin shown.
