The Kennedy Half Dollar was first minted in 1964 as a memorial to the assassinated President John F. Kennedy. It was authorized by Congress just a month after his death. Since 2002, Kennedy Half Dollars have only been struck to satisfy the demand from collectors, and are available at a premium through the Mint.

This 1970 coin is in brilliant, uncirculated condition. This is the last year that regular-strike Kennedy half dollars would be issued in 40% silver. However, even the regular-strike 1970 Kennedy silver half dollars were not minted for circulation, as they were only distributed in mint sets for that year. This scenario created a situation whereby the 1970-D Kennedy half dollar would become a key date for the series. It comes encased in an air-tight capsule to protect the coin's integrity. Similar to coin shown.
